What Type of Proof of Means of Livelihood Is Required for Foreign Nationals (Excluding Spouses of Nationals of Our Country) Applying for Naturalization of Our Country’s Nationality?

  1. Pursuant to Article 3, Paragraph 1, Subparagraph 4 of the Nationality Act, applicants shall meet the requirement of “having sufficient property or professional skills, being self-supporting, or having no concerns regarding livelihood security.”
    According to Article 7, Paragraph 1, Subparagraph 2 of the Enforcement Rules of the same Act, this requirement refers to:
    • Having an average monthly income within the country over the most recent one year that exceeds twice the basic wage announced by the Ministry of Labor.
    • Having a total appraised value of domestic movable and immovable property exceeding NT$5 million.
    • Holding certificates of professional occupations and technical personnel or skills examination certificates issued by government agencies of our country.
    • Being recognized as high-level professional talent needed by our country as prescribed in Article 25, Paragraph 3, Subparagraph 2 of the Immigration Act, and having been approved for permanent residence in the Taiwan Area.
    • Other qualifications as recognized by the Ministry of the Interior.
  2. Submission of the documents listed in Item 1, Subitems (1) and (2) above, including those submitted by the applicant and the following persons who have household registration within the country:
    • Spouse.
    • Parents of the spouse.
    • Parents.
  3. Submission of the documents listed in Item 1, Subitem (3) above, including those submitted by the applicant and the following persons who have household registration within the country; if the documents are submitted by the following persons, a letter of guarantee sufficient to ensure that the applicant’s livelihood within the country is secure shall also be provided:
    • Spouse.
    • Parents of the spouse.
    • Parents.
