I want to obtain a Taiwan Identity Card. Are there courses available that provide the required 72-hour certification?

According to Article 3, Paragraph 1 of the “Standards for Recognition of Basic Language Ability and Basic Knowledge of Rights and Duties for Naturalized ROC Citizens,” applicants are recognized as having the required basic language ability and civic knowledge if they possess one of the following documents:

  1. Proof of having studied for more than one year at a public or private school in Taiwan.
  2. Proof of participation in courses offered by government agencies in Taiwan, with total or accumulated class hours reaching the required amount.
  3. Certificate of passing the Basic Language Ability and Civic Knowledge Test for Naturalization Applicants.

The Department of Education currently offers the following 72-hour certified courses:

【Adult Basic Education Program (New Immigrant Class / General Class)】
The course is held twice a year:

  • Session 1: Approximately March to July
  • Session 2: Approximately August to December

Each session includes 72 class hours.

【Junior and Elementary Continuing Education Programs】
These programs follow the academic school year system:

  • First semester begins in September
