How to apply for naturalization as a citizen of the Republic of China (Taiwan)?
Requirements for Foreign Spouses Applying for Naturalization: (Applicants must have resided legally in Taiwan for more than 3 consecutive years from the application date, with physical presence of at least 183 days each year.)
Required Documents:
- Application Form: Must be applied for in person at the counter (computer-printed form) with one color passport-style photo taken within the last 2 years.
- Valid Alien Residence Permit (ARC) or Alien Permanent Residence Permit (APRC): If your ARC is within 30 days of expiring, please renew it before applying.
- Proof of Basic Language Ability and Knowledge of National Rights/Duties: One of the following:
- Certificate of study at a public or private school in Taiwan for at least 1 year.
- Certificate of attending government-organized courses for at least 72 hours.
- Test result (Passing score: 60+; or 50+ for those aged 65 or older). Note: A test fee of NT$500 applies.
- Marriage Documents: If the marriage is not yet registered in Taiwan, provide marriage certificates and nationality IDs. If married abroad, documents must be authenticated by a Taiwan overseas mission and translated into Chinese.
- Certificate Fee: NT$1,200 (Payable via postal money order to "Ministry of the Interior" or online).
Notes:
- Documents already recorded in the household registration system do not need to be resubmitted.
- The government will verify your residence, entry/exit, and criminal records internally.
- Important: You must provide proof of renouncing your original nationality within 1 year of naturalization approval.
- Inquiry: Any Household Registration Office nationwide.
